Was delighted to find your web site, it has brought back so many memories of my time living in this village during the war years. I lived with the Coles family on Wood Street and was lucky enough to go through these years ( thanks to this family) not fully realising the reality of war. Grafton Underwood was a play area for many of the village boys who would cotton on to one of the many B17's as their own. Yes I have many memories of this time of my life, school, church, my paper round starting at the post office. Would be interested to learn if any of the Coles family still live in the village, I seem to remember the eldest daughter was married to Bill Woods and a second daughter named Sylvia, who would now be in her early seventies. It's been a pleasure to find your site and commend you on its appeal.

It appears that Geddington is just as lively as it was in the years I spent there and you must be proud of your village.
Kindest regards, Vin Kirkman

Hello,

I now live in Staffordshire, but wondered whether anyone knows about a funfair being held on the former football pitches off Grafton Road. I am going back to about 1964/65 or possibly earlier. At that time I was a young girl living in Star Lane, now known as Malting Lane. I remember on a Sunday evening hearing music and my Grandparents walked me in the direction of the music which took us to the old football pitches. There were only a couple of roundabouts and stalls, but I wondered if anyone else remembers this and whether they have any more information about it.

My other query, would be about a gentleman who lived in a caravan near to the old "Brigstock camp", who supposedly had a lion chained up by his caravan. My Grandparents told me about this, but all I have come up with is that a circus or similar used to visit Kings Cliffe and I wondered if there was any connection. My Grandparents lived in Geddington from around 1953 until 1956.

Hello we are trying to trace members of the Binley family whom we believe lived in this area, namely the blacksmith Francis Binley who would have been the husband of Anne (or Annie) and father of Emma Binley, Eleanor Binley (probably named after the Cross) and Herbert, also believe an Alfred and John. Emma moved to Wimbledon and married my grandfather William Horwood in 1905. If there is anyone with this surname we'd be so pleased to hear from them. Emma had three sons, John, Stanley Francis, and Ellis George. Ellis was my father who died aged 95 years in 2007.

I lived in Geddington for almost all of the 80s. Made some very good friends while a member of the Geddington Badminton Club - I was rubbish! I miss living in England. I am hoping to contact a retired American Air Force Serviceman - Lindsey T. Cameron who lives with his family in the village. Please pass my e-mail info to him if you happen to know him. Again, best times of my life were in this village. People were/are phenomenal - made this "Yank" feel accepted.

My family and I are trying to trace the remnants of our Burros Family in England. There was a Julian Burros who went to England at some unknown date, married there, and remained. Our Burros Family was originally from Lithuania, where the name might have been Baruch.
We were wondering if the Julian Burrows of the query about the Old Vicarage might be a descedant of our Julian Burros.

I am researching the (non-conformist) Leigh family who fled London in 1665 and were resident in Geddington during the late 1600's through the 1700's. I am particularly interested in (2) Thomas Leighs, but any Leigh would be useful to know about especially with links to Brigstock Leighs. Records are hard to find so I would love to hear from any individual who might be able to help further my research for this time period.

They were in the area 1650 - 1750, They came in the area and moved on to different area. If any one has a chance to have a look at church records available it will be wonderful. Hi from sunny Cyprus I lived in Geddington for a number of years living in Wood Street. I have many fond memories of Geddington and some of you may have a photograph hanging on your wall, which I took and sold at the Medieval fair where my wife and I had a stall near the church. My son Greg trained to be a Game Keeper at Boughton House.
Just for the record it is beautifully sunny day in Cyprus with the temperatures in the high 20s. Regards to anybody who remembers Joy and me.

Regards

Tony

I am interested in the Old Vicarage and in particular the Old Boarding School at the top of West Street.

My Gran and Grandad, John and Irene Burrows, lived there from around 1954.

Any available photos/history would be most interesting.

My Father and I still visit occasionally

Thankyou

Julian Burrows

[Editor's note: if anyone has any information for Mr Burrows, I'd be happy to pass it on. Email me at editor@geddington.net.]

With reference to the request of Trevor Harker. During the second World war I worked closely with The German Intelligence Bureau. We were aware of this fictious aerodrome and in fact ariel photographs are stored within our archives. I shall seek permission from our current recorder of archived war material with a view to exchanging information with you. I shall be in contact again soon. Reguards H V Sneider

[Editor's note: Personally, I view this message with extreme scepticism but on the off-chance that it's genuine, I thought I should post it. If, as seems more likely, it's a hoax, then at least it's a fairly amusing one. Trevor - perhaps you could let me know your email address so that if I receive anything more from Herr Von Sneider, I can let you see it personally.]

Hi, I have recently moved in to the village and together with many ex Kettering rugby players I am arranging Geddington Rugby Club's inaugural match against a Kettering select side (Fathers and sons). This should take place on the sports field at the end of August. This will then allow us to register with the English Rugby Union. If successful, hopefully this will become an annual event. If you are interested please dig out your old boots and give me a ring. I currently have some 16 players aging from 18 to fifty something but the more the merrier. Once the date is confirmed I will put up a poster on the notice board…. Oh and the pubs ….and other Vets fixtures will be welcomed

Hoping that someone may be able to help. My GGGG Grandparents Edmund Lee (1756-1828) and Elizabeth (nee Bullivant)- ( 1774-1863) are believed to be interred in the Church grounds with a number of their relations and I am wondering if their headstones still exist. If so,if photos and/or details of the inscriptions could be provided to me this would be much appreciated.
As I understand it the Bullivants and Lees numbered quite a few in the area.
Kind regards,
Max Northeast, Australia

Hi. I lived at 34 Skefington Close from 1958-64, my mates were Pip Parry and Brian Steel. I delivered papers for Woods and then worked at the garage whilst at Kettering Tech. Does anyone remember the Battle of the Brook? What happened to the anvil? I like the pictures of the floods as I rember watching the brook rise to the stone wall around the gardens of the close. I also rember Mr Alsop who had a smallholding, and was also the village carpenter. He had the most wonderful workshop with hundreds of tools. It would be nice to hear from anyone who remembers me.

Hello! I have just stumbled upon this website, I didn't know it existed – what a great site! I was born and bred in Geddington (Newton Road) – you may know Rick and Jan Osborne (my folks) and I now live in sunny Eastbourne. I miss Geddington and my time there but can't seem to tear myself away from the sea at the moment.....
Hello to all who know me (Nick Longhurst-didn't I used to babysit for your children? and Trevor- thanks to you and Lesley for our laughs at your farm when I was young!)
No doubt I will see some of you again soon.
Take care, Dawn x

I wondered whether any of your readers could help me. During the Second World War at my farm in Little Oakley, 82 acres were used as a dummy aerodrome. The idea being that the Germans would drop their bombs on there as opposed to the American Air Base at Grafton Underwood. Opposite my house, there were a few mess huts, a pillbox, an anti-aircraft gun and a searchlight. I would be most grateful if anyone has any records or photographs of these being there, that I could see. Alternatively, if anyone has any memories of this period, I would love to come along and talk to them. Many thanks. Trevor Harker (Tel.742293)

Thought you may find this of interest.... you will find pictures of Geddington in the form of a 'Pictorial Walk', on the web site owned by Keith Bellamy of Wellingborough - www.kbsmile.com -. There are some photographs that require identification, perhaps your readers can help identify the village landmarks. Keith Bellamy also provides a link to Geddington.net.
