My ancestors came from Geddington, and the names I am connected to are Clipson (Clipstone). Brawnson and Chapman. My paternal Great Grandfather was Isaac Clipstone b 1835. I have direct links to John Clipson b 1736 approx. in Geddington. Have only just found out this information, and we are looking forward to visiting your lovely village.

Hello from Australia I was given this wonderful site by a dear friend who is a long lost relative living in the UK who told me he visited Geddington last year. I straight away pricked my ears up as I have ancestors who originally came from there and migrated to Australia and more over still have relations possibly in the area. I am currently constructing my Ancestors family tree with names of Videon.. Badman... Worthley. So please to those who read this, if any one is related to, has knowledge of, or is kind enough to be able to share information PLEASE contact me at my email address.

I am trying to find Bridget Curtis, who trained as a nurse with me, from 1961, at Kings College Hospital London. We are planning a Grand Reunion next year, as it will be our 50th Anniversary. We remember that Bridget came from Geddington, and someone may posibly remember her, and perhaps know where she is now. To date, I have found 17 of the original 28, and will keep trying every way I can think of to find the others! How wonderful if your village could help me to do this.

Hi, I've just been looking at the Boughton House website & came across yours from a link. It's brought back nostalgic memories for me as our family lived in Dallington House next to the garage on the A43 from 1953-1964. We had a wonderful big copper beech tree in the front garden-sadly gone now but I have wonderful childhood memories of climbing it with my brothers. Today it's Easter Monday & we always had friends over for The Battle of the Brook-it was great fun watching those strong men getting soaked trying to pull the barrel across the river! Also May Day- collecting our 'free' roll from the bakery & distributing to our elderly neighbours and of course the wonderful May Day celebrations at school & the crowning of the May Queen. Remember that cold winter of 1963 when we made an igloo in the cricket field? Sadly cows broke in to the field & it was gone the next day.The river froze that year too. My Mum, Mary Darker (nee Riggall) has just celebrated her 90th BD -she & her siblings lived in the villa

Hi, I hope that some one may be able to help me as I am doing my family tree on the Lyon family from Geddington. I have a Thomas Lyon born about1762, he married Joanna Rice at Geddington Parish Church in 1788. I think that his father may also have been a Thomas. I am looking for a John Lyon that may have been a brother in Little Bowden and a John and Mary Lyon, Quakers of Geddington. Please could any one help fill in the gaps? Many thanks. Joan

Hi, I am researching my family history - and one branch of my family originates from Geddington/Kettering.
My g.g.g.grandfather - Isaiah Wood [b1812] lived in Kettering and brought up his family there. However, one of his sons, Stephen Richardson Wood - was born in Geddington. Isaiah married Rachel Richardson and three children were Stephen [b1839], Alfred [b1846], Alice[b1844] and Rhoda [b 1840]. In later years, the family moved on to Nottingham [and other places] but I wondered if there were still any family based in Geddington/Kettering. If you are related,or have any knowledge of this family, please get in touch. I would love to hear from you!
Thank you for reading my message.

I am researching my 4 x great grandfather Benjamin Holding, a carpenter, who was born at Geddington about 1787. He married Rebecca Smith (born Weekley about 1792) in Weekley in 1810. Their children Harriet, George, Rebecca, Henrietta and Edwin were born in Geddington, although Edwin may have been born in Wellingborough. Harriet and Edwin immigrated to Australia in 1853 and I am descended from Edwin. As I am in Australia I would be grateful for any information about any "Holding" records or references in the area.

Hello! I am trying to surprise my mother who lived in Geddington early 50's to mid 60's with any memorabilia from her childhood, (she was a child during this time, left just after starting secondary school, only moved to Kettering), attended Geddington school and was May Queen early 60's. She lived in the Club as her parents Harry and Pamela Giles ran it. She has no photo's of her father who passed away over 30 years ago. Just wondered if anyone may have any copies of newspapers/photographs etc of her or her family (She has one photograph of her and her mother on a boat during bad flooding which was on the wall of the Star Inn until fairly recently, but that is all she owns of her life in Geddington. Her name was Nina Giles. Any information or contacts gratefully appreciated. Thankyou!

Hello there, have just found this website by accident too. Am researching family history and would be very interested to hear from anyone who might have known Ella, Agnes or Bert Lewis or any of the Rawsons - William, Tom, Janet, Jim or Harold? Two brothers Ernest and George died in WW1. I know one of my relatives John Kyle was the head gamekeeper of Weekly Hall Woods and kept a pub in Geddington in his later years. It would be great to hear from anyone who has any info. My mum is Marjorie Agnes Kovacs, nee Rawson, used to live Kingsley Ave, Kettering and used to spend holidays in Geddington with her grandparents.

Hello everyone, what an excellent site! I was wondering if anyone knew anything about any of the teachers from the Primary School in the 60s/70s? I was there between 1967 and 1972 (moved away in Jan 1973), and I remember the school very fondly. In particular Mrs Pack was an inspirational teacher.

I came across this site by accident and recognised the cross in the village. I have very fond memories of riding a lovely little grey pony past this monument every Sunday afternoon, in the mid to late sixties. I learned to ride horses at a local riding school that was owned by a Ms Rachel Pickford. I spent several Summers helping at the Riding School in return for a lesson at the end of the week! I now live in Western Australia and breed and compete on my own horses....all thanks to a little grey pony named 'Mitçh' who stole my heart many years ago. Does this riding establishment still exist or has it long gone? Cheers from 'Down Under'

I have just started to look up my family tree and have so far got to the 1901 census which shows that my great great grandfather, Potter Bell was gamekeeper at Geddington Chase. We have a wonderful picture of Potter standing outside the lodge looking every inch the gamekeeper. If you have any records which show any personal history, what happened to Potter and his family, I would love to hear about him. I only wish I had started this quest two years ago when my grandmother was still alive, she would have been fascinated. I look forward to hearing from somebody who can help.

Was delighted to find your web site, it has brought back so many memories of my time living in this village during the war years. I lived with the Coles family on Wood Street and was lucky enough to go through these years ( thanks to this family) not fully realising the reality of war. Grafton Underwood was a play area for many of the village boys who would cotton on to one of the many B17's as their own. Yes I have many memories of this time of my life, school, church, my paper round starting at the post office. Would be interested to learn if any of the Coles family still live in the village, I seem to remember the eldest daughter was married to Bill Woods and a second daughter named Sylvia, who would now be in her early seventies. It's been a pleasure to find your site and commend you on its appeal.
It appears that Geddington is just as lively as it was in the years I spent there and you must be proud of your village. Kindest regards, Vin Kirkman

Hello,
I now live in Staffordshire, but wondered whether anyone knows about a funfair being held on the former football pitches off Grafton Road. I am going back to about 1964/65 or possibly earlier. At that time I was a young girl living in Star Lane, now known as Malting Lane. I remember on a Sunday evening hearing music and my Grandparents walked me in the direction of the music which took us to the old football pitches. There were only a couple of roundabouts and stalls, but I wondered if anyone else remembers this and whether they have any more information about it.
My other query, would be about a gentleman who lived in a caravan near to the old "Brigstock camp", who supposedly had a lion chained up by his caravan. My Grandparents told me about this, but all I have come up with is that a circus or similar used to visit Kings Cliffe and I wondered if there was any connection. My Grandparents lived in Geddington from around 1953 until 1956.

Hello we are trying to trace members of the Binley family whom we believe lived in this area, namely the blacksmith Francis Binley who would have been the husband of Anne (or Annie) and father of Emma Binley, Eleanor Binley (probably named after the Cross) and Herbert, also believe an Alfred and John. Emma moved to Wimbledon and married my grandfather William Horwood in 1905. If there is anyone with this surname we'd be so pleased to hear from them. Emma had three sons, John, Stanley Francis, and Ellis George. Ellis was my father who died aged 95 years in 2007.

I am researching the (non-conformist) Leigh family who fled London in 1665 and were resident in Geddington during the late 1600's through the 1700's. Records are hard to find so I would love to hear from any individual who might be able to help further my research for this time period.

Hi from sunny Cyprus I lived in Geddington for a number of years living in Wood Street. I have many fond memories of Geddington and some of you may have a photograph hanging on your wall, which I took and sold at the Medieval fair where my wife and I had a stall near the church. Hi, I have recently moved in to the village and together with many ex Kettering rugby players I am arranging Geddington Rugby Club's inaugural match against a Kettering select side (Fathers and sons). This should take place on the sports field at the end of August. This will then allow us to register with the English Rugby Union. If successful, hopefully this will become an annual event. If you are interested please dig out your old boots and give me a ring. I currently have some 16 players aging from 18 to fifty something but the more the merrier. Once the date is confirmed I will put up a poster on the notice board…. Oh and the pubs ….and other Vets fixtures will be welcomed

If so,if photos and/or details of the inscriptions could be provided to me this would be much appreciated. As I understand it the Bullivants and Lees numbered quite a few in the area. Hi. I lived at 34 Skefington Close from 1958-64, my mates were Pip Parry and Brian Steel. I delivered papers for Woods and then worked at the garage whilst at Kettering Tech. Does anyone remember the Battle of the Brook? What happened to the anvil? I like the pictures of the floods as I rember watching the brook rise to the stone wall around the gardens of the close. I also rember Mr Alsop who had a smallholding, and was also the village carpenter. He had the most wonderful workshop with hundreds of tools. It would be nice to hear from anyone who remembers me.

I wondered whether any of your readers could help me. During the Second World War at my farm in Little Oakley, 82 acres were used as a dummy aerodrome. The idea being that the Germans would drop their bombs on there as opposed to the American Air Base at Grafton Underwood. Opposite my house, there were a few mess huts, a pillbox, an anti-aircraft gun and a searchlight. I would be most grateful if anyone has any records or photographs of these being there, that I could see. Alternatively, if anyone has any memories of this period, I would love to come along and talk to them. Many thanks. Trevor Harker (Tel.742293)

Just wanted to say 'HI' to my pals in Geddington. I really enjoyed the few years I lived in Geddington and have many great memories. I miss Burwells, the jam sessions on a Sunday afternoon in The Star, panto practise (altho I was only in the one), and the good craic.

I am researching my family history, the SKELLHAMs of Geddington and EASTs of Kettering. I am arranging an EAST family get-together in April and am trying to trace Desmond Whitworth, last known to be living in Geddington, he is the son of Louise Ada East and Bertie Whitworth. If anyone can help, please contact me- many thanks.

Just like to say hello to any of my old friends I have not had the time to meet on my fairly frequent trips back to Geddington (Newton Road). I'm now living in France but if anyone wants to get in touch, here's my email.

hi, I just would like to say hello to anyone who remembers me. Used to go to the CE primary school and lived in dovecote barn, which my father completely refurbished the first time. my name is Brenton and I now live near Rimini, in italy. Memories of Geddington as a kid are still very warm to me, and thanks for publishing my message.
