It’s a messy business!!

Apparently an increasing number of dog owners are failing to clear up there dog mess! Local councillor John Padwick says that “the top of Wood Street/Clay Dick seems to be a big problem and the Kettering Borough Council Dog Warden has been made aware”. However the “problem appears to be widespread across Geddington. I’ve been told that uncleared dog mess has even been found on the bridge in the waiting areas”. He added the “issue seems to be one of respect for others and responsibility not to mention health, particularly of small children.”.

A debate on Facebook has led to strong condemnation from responsible dog owners. With comments such as:

Dog Mess_02“I know lots of friends in the village who are dog owners and are very responsible with their dogs – and so the dog owners concerned are really letting all dog owners down. I blame the owners and not the dogs – it is completely disrespectful and shows no concern for the environment, peoples health and enjoyment of our lovely village and countryside.”.

“I like the follow them home and put it through the letterbox, but apparently stooping to their level isn’t the done thing. Out them on Facebook or take a photo and stick it on the noticeboard.”.

“Identify all Geddington dog owners and target them with a gentle reminder”.

Others have commented on the confrontational nature of some of the ideas suggesting it’s a few bad owners that give the many a bad name.

What do think about this emotive problem and what is the best way to get the message across to people?

I am a dog owner and always pick up my dogs mess. It annoys me when other owners don’t pick up their dogs mess and gives all dog owners a bad name. Don’t tar us all with the same brush!

Since the introduction of the new waste disposal system, dog owners can now put their doggy bags in any street waste bin, as well as those designated for dog mess. So there’s no need to leave little plastic bags full of dog mess on the ground – a disgusting habit.

Shame there’s no law that insists that cat owners clean up after their pets

I am a responsible dog owner who wouldn’t dream of leaving dog mess around our village.
The thing that annoys me most is finding bags of dogs mess discarded in the fields and hedges along the footpaths around the village. Why put it in bags and then throw it around? It is a danger to wildlife, unsightly, a health hazard and the bags do not usually decompose. Please take them home or bin them properly.
