Boxing Club

Geddington Amatuer Boxing Club was formed in 2004 with the aim of providing a sporting facility for local young people of both sexesand to promote boxing as a positive youth activity.

One senior and three assistant coaches are professionally trained and nationally recognised, creating a secure and safe environment in which club members can train and develop skills.

The club meets at Geddington Youth Club, Grafton Road, four times a week on.

  • Monday, Thursday and Friday evenings and
  • Sunday mornings

Some people use the facilities for fitness training only but others go on to box competitively and the club organises aproximately 10 shows each year.

News

On Friday 25th May, Geddington ABC travelled approximately three hours to Grimsby's Casablanca club with two of their boxers to honour an invitation from the Eastern Counties ABA to participate in a representative and select team versus the Notts & Lincs ABA.

Kevin Valmer and Alex Ramancick took upon themselves the task of saying a big thank you for the support given to our club over the last three years from the Eastern Counties ABA. Now as members of our local regional Leicester, Rutland and Northants ABA the two lads performed admirably.

Kevin Valmer boxing at 75kgs completely dominated T Staples from Grimsby ABC over four 2 minute rounds, taking the initiative from the first bell and picking his punches with extreme accuracy to both head and body, thus nullifying his opponent's dogged resistance throughout. Credit must be given to both boys for a spirited display of effort and sportsmanship. Although Kevin won by a unanimous decision, T Staples contributed to a most entertaining contest.

A change of opponent meant that the Geddington club's Alex Ramanick at 74kgs had to re-adjust his strategy to face a slightly lighter opponent in K Hooper from Grimsby ABC who possessed exceedingly fast hands. This he did commendably by forcing the action over the duration of the contest. On balance he could not have put more into attempting to compete with his opponent’s speed and survival tactics, which saw Alex narrowly losing on points.
