We would love
to have as many photos of events and occasions
involving the church community as is possible.
If your organisation or group has photos of church related
events that you would like to have shown to your neighbours
and friends and which would be appropriate for this site,
would you please speak to Kam or email EDITOR@GEDDINGTON.NET

Good News!
We have plans to make our Church warmer.
How?
Brian Giles has fixed the metal grids that used to go "clonk"
as you walked in. Over them carpet underlay has been fitted.
To that cables have been fixed taking electricity to every
pew. Over that new carpet will be laid. It will then be possible
for every pew to have a heater, like the sample Jenny has
been enjoying. Warm heads from the old heaters will be matched
by warm knees and toes from the new ones.
What next?
Here comes the catch! We can afford to do all the work listed
above, but not to buy all the heaters. We invite you to donate
a heater - and with that, you get the right to say which pew
it will be fitted to. A full-length one will cost £265
having beaten the supplier down from the £297 price
given in April. Shorter ones could be available at around
£240 but two would be needed to heat one of the long
pews. Some of you may be able to afford such a donation, but
some won't. We quite understand. If you can help, please let
me know.
Yours sincerely
Giles Godber - Priest in Charge of Geddington
and Weekley
First
Sunday
For a number of years, Geddington tried to make First Sunday
a child-friendly service. Older members were not keen, but
for a while families attended in good numbers. In more recent
months, families have tended to come when there is Sunday
School (2nd and 4th Sundays.) We have decided to have a normal
Parish Communion on the First Sunday of each month.
Money matters
Geddington's income has gone down during 2012, compared to
2011. These are tough times for everyone. Giles wrote to all
church members, and 2 increased their Standing Orders, but
he received no replies. We shall survive 2012, but with parish
share rising, 2013 will be difficult. Expect to hear more
on this subject
Why Growth?
Giles and Barbara came to faith and were called to serve within
a parish church which was always looking for ways to grow.
Growth in numbers attending and growth in commitment were
the targets.
Giles has always assumed that that is how all churches feel.
It takes hard work and prayer, but it surely obeys our Lord's
command: "Go into all the world and make disciples
"
Alas not every Church does want to grow.
When new people start coming to a Church, that Church will
change slightly. The smaller the Church, the larger the impact
of one new person or family. The message that Giles hears
most frequently is "We don't like change!"
But without growth, the Church will slowly shrink and cease
to be. Who will look after our Church buildings then? (There
are better reasons for growth, than building maintenance,
but that is a kind of "bottom line" in many people's
minds.)
So please be prepared to put up with a little change, please
put our Growth Action Plans into effect and please play a
full part in making new people welcome.
